A pressure vessel is a closed container designed to hold gases or liquids at significantly higher or lower pressures than the surrounding atmosphere. The accumulator vessel is a device that, when connected to a pressurised water system, provides system water at a predetermined sustained pressure. Its most common application is to supply systems where the main supply pressure is insufficient and a pump is installed to raise the pressure to an acceptable level. It is a vessel that is partially filled with liquid and partially filled with gas (usually air); its internal pressure is typically greater than atmospheric pressure.
The majority of industrial pressure vessels are cylindrical or drum-like in shape, with stainless steel walls. This material is corrosion resistant and durable.
